Study of effective environmental and non-environmental factors in adoption sprinkler irrigation methods: Case study of Khorasan Razavi province

Abstract

    The main objective of this study is to determine the environmental and non-environmental factors effective in adoption sprinkler irrigation methods in Khorasan Razavi province's farmers in 2007. For this purpose, Logit model was used. The results of this study showed that farmer´s age, number of family labors, land fragmentation, number of products and access to water are variables that have a negative effect on adoption sprinkler irrigation methods. Also, area farms, literacy level, main job of farmers, land slope, heterogeneity of soil and getting loan, all, have positive and significant effects on adoption sprinkler irrigation methods. With respect to results of this study, promotion of farmers' knowledge, payment of subsidized credit and increasing of farm size through land consolidation are introduced as suggestions.   JEL Classification: Q25, Q15, O3, C21
