Assessing and Comparing the Export Comparative Advantage of Cut-branch Flowers in Iran and the Major Exporting Countries

Abstract

In spite of suitable climate for producing and supplying the different kinds of cut-branch flower in Iran, its share in the world production and export is low. The main goal of this paper is to indicate the comparative advantage of Iran’s cut-branch flower and compare with the major exporting countries. Revealed Comparative Advantage has been used for calculating comparative advantage. The results showed that during the study period, Netherlands, Kenya, Ecuador, Colombia and Palestine have comparative advantage in flower export and Italy, Spain, Belgium, Thailand, United States, Germany, Great and Iran have not comparative advantage in flower export. Calculating the correlation coefficient of revealed comparative advantage between Iran and its competitors in world market indicated that Netherlands, Kenya, Colombia and Thailand are the main competitors of Iran in export market. Therefore, imposing suitable policies for increasing the Iran export comparative advantage is a necessary.
